CASE STUDY– Bespoke Hotel & Restaurant for High-End Developer South Wales

At the front end of 2014, DBJ’s design team were approached by the new owner of a magnificent early Victorian Grade 2 listed derelict building, the client is looking to transform it to a 12 bed hotel accommodating a high-end restaurant.

This brief has involved extensive furniture design work by our creative team; this included designing the furniture for the bespoke reception area, aperitif lounge, main dining room bar, dining room tables and chairs.

Always at the early stage in the design process our thoughts turn towards what types of timber species and cut that we think works best for the design. The primary materials chosen for this design was Ammara Ebony Veneer Laminate and glacier white Solid Surface.

Primary material 1, Ammara Ebony is a deep chocolate brown in colour, with pale orange ripples running through it. It was very important that the pattern was even in colour throughout, maintaining a consistent ripple for the length and width of the reception counter and bar linear runs.

Primary material 2, Solid Surface applications are extremely far reaching and is an entirely man-made material formed from an acrylic polymer, comes in lots of colours, is non-porous, stain resistant, heat resistant and flexible when heated, allowing it to be moulded into any form you want, if damage occurs, like magic it can seamlessly be repaired.
